I've been wanting rock sliders for many many years, but something
always
seemed to come up and they got put on the back burner. For those
that have followed my tales, well, you know that old Blue has received
a lot of
damage from the lack of having sliders.
Well, I lucked out back in October, when I stumbled across a group by
going
on by the Mountain Chapter over on FullSizeBronco
for sliders
from BoonDockBumpers.
I noticed that the group buy was still open, and the guy in charge of
the buy, Ricardo,
graciously said I that would
be more than welcome to get in on the buy.
Well, 2 1/2 months later, my sliders arrived. I spent the weekend
installing them, and the only issue I had was that the rear leg on the
left slider
was right inline with my fuel filter, so I had to move it back about
7". The left side was a pain, as along with the above problem, the left
frame
rail has all the fuel lines ans wiring looms. The right side was easy
as there is nothing there. I still want to drill an extra hole in each
mounting
bracket, as the three that are there are up on the top of the bracket.
Here are pictures of the sliders in transit, and the install.
The shipment of sliders as it arrived in Colorado.
My sliders being shipped from Colorado,
As they arrived to me.
Day 1 of installing (Saturday):
I noticed a rattle on my last wheeling trip, and
this was the culprit; left front fender bolt.
Test fitting the left side.
I had to move the rear leg rearward about
7" as it was right inline with the fuel filter.
The front bolts.
Front mount.
Rear mount.
All re-welded and bolted up for the final test fit.
They sit slightly inward at the front.
Day 2 of installing (Sunday):
Paint time.
Left side mounted.
All done.
I owe a special thanks to Ricardo for shipping the sliders to me, and
to Indir for
letting me in the shop and helping me out, especially when
he heard the sigh.
Thanks guys!
Did a test run to see how they held up when jacking.
They just touch the body.
Definately need that lower bolt on each leg.
