A few months ago Clint from Serious Metals invited a bunch of us along to the C.O.R.E. 4X4 Challenge in Monroe, WA. Of course our response
was, "Road Trip!"
We left town early Sunday morning, stopping in Snohomish for a late breakfast, then continued on to Monroe. We got to the event around 12:00, and as
we drove down the dirt road to the parking area, we were amazed to see the field full of trucks of all nature. The turn out was huge! After parking our
trucks, we walked around checking out some trucks in the parking area; talking to a few people, then off to watch the show. There was a side by side
mud pit, an obstacle course, a tractor pull and a rock climb. Most of the trucks competing in the event were hard core trail rigs, but there were a few daily
drivers too.
After an hour or so the rain came, and it poured for at least 30 minutes. Some people started to leave, and the events calmed down for a bit. As the dark
cloud past over and the sun started to come back, the show was back on. We parked our butts in front of the mud pit for a while. Nothing to nasty, except
for the last part, as it was very deep and very few trucks were making it all the way. While they were hosing down the track a couple of young girls started
a little mud wrestling, which amused the crowd for a while.
After seeing most of the trucks run the mud pit, we went back over to the rock pile and watched a guy practice going over it several times. Once he had
his line down, he decided to back over it. Half way over he made a wrong turn and got himself all bent up and almost rolled. After a quick winch
off a long, he was good to go again. After this we decided that it was time to hit the road.
Driving out of the field was a challenge in itself as the rain left it very muddy, and cars were stuck all over the place. In some spots there were ruts
2"-3" deep, which forced us to lock up the hubs in to get out. That alone was worth it.
We hit the highway for home, stopping at Jack In The Box for dinner, then continued on to the border, getting us home by around 7 pm. This was
definitely a different experience for me, and I look forward to attending this event again.

A nice Centurion conversion.

If only I had one of these when I was
a kid.

Cool!

A done up Excursion.

The line up for the tactical course.

This was a VW Beetle that was shortened.

This guy made the rock pile look easy.

We almost missed this, but this CJ was widened.

Nothing like a full size Jeep.

Another Toyota tackling the rock pile.

Not sure what this was.

A bobbed 4-Runner and a Bronco II
with an exo-cage.

Alas, the crane gets to go to work.

Would be nice to have one of
these on the trails.

This thing makes the job look easy.

Another roll-over.

This 4-Runner was sporting a set of
Parnelli Jones Dirt Grip tires.

Close up of the Dirt Grip's.

Rear shot of the Bronco II exo.

That's a lot of tube bending.

This guy makes easy work of the
rock pile by just gunning it.

Everything was welcome here.
