Today was supposed to be "CB Tuning Day", but mid-Friday, a
decision was made to go wheeling instead. We were supposed to meet at
the
A&W in Coquitlam, but there was some confusion as to which one, so
I had breakfast with Indir at one A&W, and Wil, Mike and JP had
breakfast at another A&W. After a quick phone call, we decided to
just meet
at
the trailhead, so off we went.
It was a bit icy at the trailhead, and we
were meeting the others down under the powerlines, so I jumped out to
lock the hubs
in to climb the
entrance. Upon the first climb, I heard a light "tick,
tick, tick", then I when I engaged the front locker, I heard a loud
"bang,
bang, bang".
I stopped to check it out, and found that the right axle-joint took off
and what was left of the shafts, well they were trying to smash the
upper and lower ball joints. Great!
I radio'd the others as to what had happened, and
they drove back to check it out. After a quick pow-wow, Indir got the
Explorer into
position
so I could hook my cable up to him and winch myself out to the road.
After a
few minutes and a couple of re-positions of the Explorer, I was back
on the road safe and sound, where I made the decision to call it a day,
head for home and try and repair the Bronco, as I was planning for a
New Years Day run. Indir decided to go with me, while Wil, Mike and JP
continued the wheeling on their own.
A big thanks to Wil, Mike and JP for lending their jackets
for a
good cause.
