Airing down.
Mr. Police Man stopped to do some paperwork. He had a "passenger" in
the back.
Then this tow truck shows up. Turns out that there was a large group of
kids
camping at Elbow Lake, and one of them backed this car into the lake.
We saw three young bears off in the field at the start of the Chehalis
FSR; they ran off when we stopped.
When we drove by the camp at Elbow Lake, there were LOTS of campers,
garbage
everywhere, and two other cars that were torched.
Statlu Creek bridge.
From here, we decided to head up Harrison FSR and head across Mystery
Creek FSR. Our goal was to
head up Margret Creek Pass, down Can-Opener, and come out on Norrish
Creek. Cross your fingers!
When we drove
back past Elbow Lake (about 30 minutes later), there were five police
officers there talking to the campers.
Heading up Harrison West.
Myster Creek FSR.
Chehalis River.
Shortly after this point, we saw 3 deer on the road; they ran down the
hill until we passed.
We stopped for lunch by Third Creek.
This was a nasty sink hole.
Well over 6' deep.
Near the Chehalis/Statlu Junction.
The Statlu Creek took a big chunk out of the road.
The Statlu Creek bridge, where we were 3 hours ago.
Looking West, up Statlu Creek.
That is where we are headed; looks like there may still be snow.
Heading up Margret Creek Pass.
And here is the snow we were expecting.
I tried to punch through; it was at least 12" deep.
Indir walked ahead. There was about 100' of snow, then it was clear. We
tried winching,
but there weren't a lot of trees large enough to hook up to, so we
decided to turn around.
Heading for home.
Back on the Chehalis FSR, Indir encountered a bear on the road; it took
off up into the trees, took a dump, and ran off.
Mt. Orrock.
Playing around.
A trail off Harrison FSR.
Airing up.
Just before we got here, I started hearing a bad rattle. Upon
inspection, we found that my right front caliper
hardware was gone (the bolt was still there). I carry a spare, as this
happend to Doug last year, so I put in
a new block and spring, and was good to go. The left side was sloppy,
and will need replacing too.
