August 8/2008 @ Sunrise Lake

  In Attendance:

Chris & Trevor - Ford Bronco (blue)
Sass - UniMog (orange)
Lots of others

We heard earlier in the week that a truck had rolled into Sunrise Lake and was leaking fuel and oil. A small crew went up on Tuesday night to check it
out and see if they could remove it from the lake. Unfortunately the truck was in 25' of water and on its side. They managed to hook a cable to it and
get it out of the water, but it was now upside down. They were unable to anchor it and the truck sunk back to the bottom of the lake.

The authorities were contacted, and they said they askedthat we stay away and they would take care of it. Within a few days, the contact advised that
he was going on holidays and he passed the file to somebody else. That person was unable to be contacted. This upset us as the truckhad to removed
as soon as possible.

We decided to take matters into our own hands and got a crew together to head out Saturday and remove the truck.

Myself and Sass were the main winchers, Kevin brought scuba gear so he could do what he could in the water, and lots of others were there to help out
with recover gear.

We started the recovery around 11:30, and had the truck on safe ground around 5:00, so it was a long day of winching. Sass lost both front and rear
winches, my winch stopped working at the end of the day, and we broke a few straps and tree savers. Sass brought his extra M12000 as a joke, but
it was a good thing as we swapped it in place of his overheated rear winch and managed to continue on.

The best part was getting to drag the Jeep down the trail to the trailer. All the days stress was gone.

All in all it was a good day. We had a good crew and most helped out in some way. And the main thing is that the truck is out of the lake.

Thanks to all that helped!

Make sure you check the links at the bottom of the page to all the pictures that the others took. They are worth it!

The dive team checking things out..

Sass getting the Mog ready.

Me anchored in position.

Sass was double strapped to the tree's.

The ground crew watching as the Jeep was raised from the depths of the lake.

Even the dog was waiting with anticipation.

This was the easy part.

The Mog pulling hard.

My cable was keeping the truck from flipping over.

Sass lost the front and rear winch, so I repositioned in front of him. I anchored off to a
tree, then triple snatched to the Mog and winched him as he pulled the Jeep.

We made slow progress.

She wasn't moving any further as we were pulling into the bank,
so we anchored the Jeep to the tree and re-assessed the situation.

I went up high and anchored off and did a single line pull..

Sass got in here and did a double line pull.

And voila! The Jeep came out fairly easily.

It is steeper and rockier than it looks.

The gang checking out the damage.

The Jeep had a broken brake line and maybe one tire with air in it. I towed
it down the trail, with Sass strapped in behind acting as the brake for the Jeep.

Sass showing off by backing down the v-rock.

Airing up.

Trevor's picture's:

Spotting Raz up the v-rock.

There was barely any oil slick when we got there.

Look close and you can see the grille of the Jeep.

The dive team checking things out.

Sass started winching to roll the Jeep right side up.

Here she comes.

Sass towed her away from the lake and I got in front to tow her down to the mainroad.

I'm sure it will buff right out!

Coming down the trail in tow.

The others on the v-rock.

We stopped here to lengthen the straps so we could go down the v-rock one at a time.

It was different towing a truck down the v-rock.

Let the dragging begin.

Sass keeping it under control.

What a ride.

Know e-brake means being creative parking.

Down at the main road and waiting for the trailer.

Sass pushing the Jeep up the trailer.

This didn't work as the front wheels got stuck at the trailer.

I got in position and we snatched off the front of the trailer and winched him up.

Ready for the trip home.
