Catalytic Converter
When I bought this car last year, the owner mentioned that the catalytic converter might need replacing; he had replaced the
original one with a small bodied converter and this had caused him some grief. This made sense as the CEL kept coming on
and code P0420, "Catalyst System Efficiency Below Threshold (Bank 1)" was the culprit. My insurance was coming due,
and I had to pass
AirCare, so a new converter was in order. Here is the install.....
The old improper sized converter.
Old converter and pipe removed.
The old converter.
The new proper sized
Walker converter.
New converter and pipe installed.
Had to cut and re-weld the resonator delete pipe (installed by the previous owner)
as it sat on a bad angle with the new converter.
Put in a new fuel filter while the car was in the air.
Update
After one day of driving, the "CAT" and "EVA" monitors didn't test ok. After
two days, the "CAT" was still not testing ok. With this,
I met the requirements, so I ran through AirCare and passed. Now I can move on to the next repair.
One week later, all the monitors are testing ok.
