Recall 09047
For the past few years, I have received several mailers from General
Motors about a recall on the Grand Prix. The recall is #09047, which
involves the front spark plug wires and
how they are held down to the front valve cover. The wires are covered
by a plastic retention channel, which can hold oil if the valve cover
were to leak. If stopping suddenly, this
build up of oil could spill on to the exhaust manifold, thus causing a
fire. I called GM Canada to advise them that I had fresh valve cover
gaskets and no oil leaks, but was told that
until they had a dealer do the repair, the mailers would continue.
A few years later, I got tired of getting the recall mailers. I had the
week off, so decided to bite the bullet and take the Grand
Prix to
Eagle
Ridge GM to have
recall 09047 resolved.
The book time on the repair is .2 (15 minutes), so I figured 30 minutes
max was required. Being a dealership, I would give them an hour. Turns
out that they wanted my car for two
hours. I wasn't happy about that, but I understand that I am not the
only customer they have, and they did have jobs lined up out the door.
Luckily they have a customer shuttle, so
I got a ride home and started this write-up until the job was done.
I got a call about two hours later saying that the car was finished,
and the shuttle was on the way to pick me up. After picking up a few
other customers, we arrived at the dealership
where I signed off on the job and drove my car away.
I am not a "dealership" kind of guy. Never have and probably never will
be. With that being said, I have to admit that the staff were friendly,
and having access to their shuttle service
made the experience as easy as could be expected.
Before; you can see the plastic retention channel covering the spark
plug wires.
After; #88891792 and #12132229 wire retainters installed.
