05 GXP to 97-03 seat swap! 04+ seat to 97-03 write up.......
This is a write up I have taken from clubGP on how
to install seats from a 04+ Grand Prix. The author of this write up is Jason
Klingaman
First off, related threads to the subject for anyone that needs them.

The seats I used are from a 05 GXP and they are flawless thankfully. Dirty from a 3 year old's foot prints playing, but no damage what so ever. These are going into my 99 GTP.
The rear cushion attaches in the rear to the metal bracket on the bottom of the 05 GXP rear seat back. Where the old cushion front clips were will need to be slotted for the 05. As far as the rear seat back, all you will have to do is drill 4 holes for the top attaching points to screw to. The 05 GXP rear seat back is about 2" taller than the 99 GTP and sits above the package tray slightly. I recommend slotting the mounting bracket a bit or drilling (2) new holes for the seat belt/bracket mounting bolts, thus lowering it.
FAQs answered:
1. Yes, the fronts just bolt in.
2. Yes, access to/from the back seat is greatly improved, even just with the seat slid forward. Total night and day once 04+ seat is flipped down.
3. You gain a huge amount of usable space in the GP with the rear seat flip down and passenger seat flip down. I have a system in my car blocking it so the pics don't show the full advantage.
4. Some 97-03 GPs will have metal bracing behind the rear seat back others won't. As stated my 98 did, 99 didn't for what its worth. I do not know the consequences of cutting this bracing or what would be required to reinforce once cut, if any.
5. All 04+ GP seats should work. I'm also assuming people will find most w-body seats from 97 on will probably swap with differing degrees of success. Just my guess, but I wouldn't be surprised if multiple fronts just bolt in.
6. The 04+ front Passenger seat slides forward alot further than the stock 97-02 coupe seat
7. I see no reason this couldn't be done (probably easier) in a sedan as they work in the coupe and came from a sedan themselves.
8. If you currently have headrest wraps for 97-03 front seats they will wrap perfectly around the top of the open headrest style 04+ seat. The rear wrap will also work around the upper frame, but is only visible when the seats are folded down
9. Front seat mounting dimensions approx. The front mounting slots are 15 3/4" apart inside edge to inside edge. The mounts from the front edge of the front slots to the middle of the rear bolt hole is 16 1/4".
10. The 04+ seats are an inch or so higher, but I'm 6' and still have plenty of headroom.
11. I am assuming this would likely be possible to swap into other W-bodies as well.
12. Rear seat back will sit higher if bracket isn't slotted/drilled. This will also raise cushion slightly. It may also make top plastic visible from rear or reduce rear visibility slightly if not modified.
13. You may lose some rear seat leg room due to thicker cushion/overhang, you may not.
Removal fronts:
1. Slide front seats forward
2. Unscrew covers
3. Remove (2) bolts on Pass and (2) bolts on Driver
4. Remove (1) nut on each seat attaching seatbelt
5. Tilt seat forward to unhook and remove (unhook any plugs prior if power or heat)
6. Install is simply the reverse besides wiring
-Make sure you have all (4) plastic track covers or metal will show at mounting holes where carpet doesn't cover it.
Removal rear cushion:
1. Pull cushion release tabs (2) and remove cushion
Removal rear seat back:
1. Remove (1) small nut on each side of bottom
2. Remove (1) large nut on each side of bottom also holds seat buckles
3. Top is just held in by (4) hooks. Pull bottom off of mounting bolts and lift to remove
4. Cut material covering pass-thru at this time
5. If you have metal bracing (my 99 didn't) decide course of action
Install 04+ rear seat back:
(Will update) How it appears so far:
1. Line up rear seat back bottom bracket slots with mounting bolt/seatbelt mount and rest on it.
2. Slot seat back bracket to lower seat back when mounted or drill new holes.
3. Place seatbelt buckles on bolt and install (2) large nuts.
-You may be able to use the (2) small lower mounting bolts or small nuts (hidden behind bracket, may be usable once slotted/drilled).
3. Drill (4) holes in package tray/speaker tray through seat frame.
4. Use (4) screws or bolts, washers, nuts, etc. of your choice and size in upper mounts.
Install 04+ rear seat cushion:
1. Attach rear of cushion to bracket on bottom of 04+ rear seat back bracket.
2. Mark front clip area and slot to accomodate 04+ front cushion clips (remove plastic pull tabs)
3. Once slot is sufficient re-install rear of cushion and insert front cushion clips into slot (I will most likely eventually install the floor inserts from an 04+, but clips like factory as is).
-If you mark and cut it carefully the cushion latches will function and hold correctly. I just used grease pencil, snips, and a hammer. A dremel, etc. would probably be easier and cleaner.

Yeah these can be had in a somewhat black color. Its REALLY dark gray from what I understand. The red shift boot was made custom back in the day when you could order parts like that from the vendors. They are no longer made unless you find someone who does things like this on the side like Jason Farnsworth he isn't a member here but I can get a hold of him fairly easy usually cause he does a bunch of things like this and also does polishing of the superchargers to a mirror finish.

I don't know. I think its pointless to worry about the trivial things. Buy and weigh or you can ask ark who seems completely consumed with that stuff.

Re: 05 GXP to 97-03 seat swap! 04+ seat to 97-03 write up.......
I did my swap just fine but I'm trying to figure
out how to change the retractors from the 04 to my 98 and how to bolt
them to my seat so that I don't have to wiggle the belt to get it to
lock can anyone help me
