Tire Foams

After doing some web-reading one night, I came across two modification that wouldn't cost me any money and would help my RC get
better traction on the rocks. The two article's were:

"How To Cut Tire Foams" on RCUniverse.
"Rock Racer Tech Tips" on the Axial website.

I took the RC to the backyard after doing this, and what difference! I could totally see the added deflection in the tires and I was climbing
better than before. Not bad for a few hours of my time.

Here is how I did the work.....

Remove a tire from the RC and place the tire on the work bench.

Loosen the 6 bolts that hold the beadlock to the front of the wheel.

Remove the 6 bolts.

Remove the beadlock from the wheel.

Turn the tire over.

Loosen the 6 bolts that hold the beadlock to the back of the wheel.

Remove the 6 bolts.

Remove the beadlock from the wheel.

Separate the wheel from the tire, then the foam from the tire.

Cut 3/4" from the width of the foam.

Mark the foam as to where you want to cut it.

I used a bagel knife. It wasn't pretty, but it did the job.

The leftovers after doing all 4 tires.

Instead of cutting the tread of the tire, I decided to drill two holes in the wheel.

The holes are drilled 180* from one another.

Cut foams on the left, full foams on the right.

Sample of the extra deflection in the tire.

Cust foams tire deflection.

Full foams tire deflection.
