3G Alternator

On the way home from my last wheeling trip, I noticed that the headlights were dimmer than they normally were. I looked at the voltmeter,
and it was a hair over 12 volts. Not good. I shut everything off that I could, and manged to make it home. Not wanting to put out money
on a new alternator, I did some research and found that the 130 amp 3G alternator that I had installed in my Bronco would go into the
F-250 without much work. Here is how it went.....

November 23/11

The original 75a alternator that stopped working on the way home from the last wheeling trip.

I broke the alternator bracket when removing the alternator.

Old alternator.

November 25/11

New alternator bracket.

Pile of parts to be installed.

I did some research to see how to wire up the 3G on a newer truck, and found
lots of info in the internet. Here is a good write-up that I used for reference.

November 26/11

Here is where the 3G alternator hits the alternator bracket.

After grinding, I still need to take off a little bit more.

I also ground a little off the top mount, as it was tight against the alternator.

Clocked the rear housing of the alternator so the wiring would clear the bracket.

November 27/11

Bracket installed.

Smog pump installed.

Alternator and belt installed.

This tab on the alternator wasn't threaded like the original
one, so I used a nut and bolt to hold it in place.

The old wiring harness.

Mega-fuse installed.

Mega-fuse wired.

Showing what cables go where.

Wiring from the alternator, running along side the starter cable. I used the Pico
weatherpack that I used on the Bronco vs re-using the factory olug.

The battery terminals were in bad shape, so I used
the positive cable that was in the Bronco.

Found the dizzy boot, so tossed it on while the air hoses were off.

New ground terminal installed and old battery re-charged and back in place.

Everything back together.

Idling with nothing turned on.

Idling with everything on.

December 3/11

Truck sitting for a week, engine off.

Engine on, all accessories off.

Engine on, all accessories on (fluctuating between 14.7 and 14.8v).
