Antenna operating range.

Antenna locations.

The left front door request switch does not work.
The right front door request switch works. Exiting/approaching works.
The rear tailgate request switch does not work.

Rear keyless entry antenna (behind bumper). One bolt was seized, causing
the antenna to move, and before I knew it, the wires came out of the plug.

Part #TD17676N0.

After removing the rear antenna, things have changed:
The left front door request switch does not work.
The right front door request switch works. Exiting/approaching works.
The rear tailgate request switch does not work.

FORScan results:

===RKE DTC B1131-FF===
Code: B1131 - Liftgate/Trunk Low Frequency Antenna Circuit Failure

Module: Remote Keyless Entry

===END RKE DTC B1131-FF===

The "KEY" indicator should be off, so it is telling me that there is a problem..

Silicone case for the keyfob. $6 on e-Bay.

The icons on the right side are different. Used a red felt marker to make the top one resemble the keyfob "panic" button.

The case will keep the key in place. I had to tape in place as it kept falling out.

Mazda #TD17-67-6N0. $60 on e-Bay.

Antenna mounts to the hitch. I used new nuts-n-bolts as one of the old ones broke due to being rusty.

Stock mounting location.

The "KEY" indicator now off, as it should be.

The left front door request switch does not work at all. Exiting works.
The right front door request switch works. Exiting/approaching works.
The rear tailgate request works.

So it looks like there was a problem with the rear antenna.

The way left ftont door is acting, I'm guessing that the request switch, and/or the antenna inside the door are faulty.

The smart-key fob has been acting up lately (not communicating with
the vehicle), leaving me to have to pull out the emergency key to
start the vehicle. This was getting old, so I made the key so it could go
on my key ring.

Hoping to get a regular key and retire the smart-key fob.

Found a locksmith that knew what he was doing. He came to my house today
(stat holiday), cut a test key, then cut two chip keys and programmed them.

He advised that the shoulder on the chip keys will hit the tabs on the cylinder.
You can push hard to make it work, but I chose to cut them off with a dremel.

My "smart-key free" key ring.

Removed the cylinder piece to clean up my cuts.

Used the dremel to smooth and even out the cuts.

All done.

Picked up a new cover ($10), just in case I need to return to keyless ignition.

Cut the end of the old cover off.

The cover fits pretty firmly, so we'll see if it falls off over time.

All done (again).

When I use remote start, the "key" light sometimes comes on when the key is inserted.
