Monitoring my big toe; been cleaning it and putting iodosorb
on it. There is now an ulcer on the front of the toe.

August 16/2024

Was supposed to see Hodgson for a follow up on my AFO, but
had to cancel and head to the ER; the ulcers on my big toe
got to the point where I can't keep up with them. At this point,
I'm scared to death of infection, so in the ER they took blood,
swapped the blisters, gave me some oral antibiotic and an
injection of antibiotics. I have ten days of oral antibiotic
to take, and await a call from the IV clinic at the hospital to
see when I start my daily IV antibiotics.

Saw the vascular surgeon that did my pinky-toe amputation.
He said this toe doesn't look that bad, and to continue the
antibiotics for another two weeks. The other option is to cut it off,
so we will try plan A first.

I got a call from my vascular doctor just before dinner. He
saw the latest image of the toe, and he doesn't like it. So, I am
booked for a big toe amputation on Monday morning at Abbotsford
Hospital. Supposed to be an outpatient procedure, so we'll see
how this plays out.

December 23/2024

Abbotsford Hospital; left big toe amputation complete.

My room for a few days, Baker 3137.
I can't put weight on it for three days, and will get IV antibiotics
every 6 hours while I'm here.

My IV.

Hydration.

My brother stopped by for a visit; he brought me my pillow and
a few other life essentials.

December 24/2024

My antibiotic, Vancomycin.

Mom and dad stopped by for a visit and brought me some human
food.

My surgeon stopped in to check up on me. All us good, so I
should be able to go home on Thursday.

More hydration.

December 25/2024

Merry Christmas!

Mom and dad stopped by again; mom swapped my hospital
sammich for a real one.

This came with lunch

Getting a different antibiotic.

Christmas dinner; you should see the disgust on my face.

Today's evening snack, at 6:30pm (dinner came at 5:45pm). The
label says egg salad. I don't trust dark coloured egg salad
sandwiches, so it went in the garbage .

The sad part about this is, this morning, I asked the kitchen to
stop bringing me these as I hate their sandwiches and just
throw them away. I asked for a yogurt or something else. They
said this is done by my nurse as they are the ones that request
the evening snacks. I talked to my nurse and she didn't
request this, doesn't know who did, and can't stop it. WTF?!?
What a waste of food.

My nurse was just in and we talked about the sandwich. She
said that she talked to the kitchen to stop them. She then said
that it looks like a jam sandwich.

December 26/2024

The doctor was in to see me. He removed all the post surgury
bandaging, took a quick look at things and threw a small
bandage on it.

I got the ok to go home, so started getting dressed; still have
the IV hooked up, so I only got this far.

Dressed, packed up and waiting for my ride.

My home for now (Mom and Dad's).

Time to celebrate Christmas.

Now this is a Christmas dinner.

Christsmas dinner; hospital vs home.

December 27/2024

Home Health Care. This appointment was so they could see
things and come up with a game plan. There was some dried
blood, which most likely happend when I first put weight on it.
Other than that, everything looks good. We will stick with the
Tuesdsy and Friday appointments, and re-evaluate things in a
week.

December 31/2024

Just some random pics of my freaky foot.

Home Health Care. No pictures; everything is looking good.

I had IVIG today, so no Home Health Care. That means I
had to change the bandage myself.

Home Health Care.

January 13/2025

Follow up with vascular surgeon. He was happy with the healing
(been 3 weeks); I can start putting weight on it, so no more
off-loading shoe and no need for bandages. The stitches can
come out on Friday, which will require a bandage for a day or so
as there may be some bleeding. At this point he said I no longer
need to go to Home Health Care, so I will havd that conversation
with them when I see them, and see what they say.

Back home, testing out my sneakers.

January 14/2025

Home Health Care. They agreed with my surgeon's plans, and
will re-evaluate on Friday when the stitches come out. They
may want to see me for another week or so, which is fine with me.

I get to dab this on the stitch line once a day.
