Toe #2 Ulcer

(Chronic Inflammatory Demyelinating Polyneuropathy)

February 6/2025

Foot Solutions. They got some new models of shoes in, so I went
to see what they had. Came home with these New Balance 1540's.

These shoes are super wide and have a large toe box. My #2 toe
is hammer-toed and showing signs of possibly rubbing on the
shoe (little red dot), so hopefully these shoes prevent or
minimize that. I am now putting a corn pad and tape on the area
to (hopefully) let it heal.

May 11/2025

The bandage my foot care nurse put on the toe on Friday.

Not a fan of the bandage.

My bandage.

May 15/2025

Podiatrist #3.

May 29/2025

Follow up at the podiatrist. Things are looking good, so will continue
with a simple bandage & a dab of iodosorb.

June 12/2025

Follow up at the podiatrist. No real improvement, so changing to
Santyl Collagenase ointment.

June 14/2025

Toe picture.

June 16/2025

My pharmacist had to special order the ointment, so I picked it up
and started using it today; $105 for a 30g tube.

June 17/2025

Two applications of the Santyl ointment and it already looks better.

June 27/2025

Follow up at the podiatrist. The new treatment is working well.

July 3/2025

Now that the wound is healing, Lefty got a long overdue bath.

July 10/2025

Follow up at the podiatrist.

All the sluff removed.

With this latest ointment, I put it on and bandage up the toe in the
morning, and take it off and clean it before going to bed. I sleep
with nothing on it.

The healing is not where it should be, so I will now leave the
ointment and bandage on all the time, changing and cleaning it
once a day.

Also note that the nail of toe #3 is lifting a little at the front of the
toe, but is not an issue at this time.

July 24/2025

Follow up at the podiatrist. Change to putting a corn pad on the
wound to give it some breathing room.

August 6/2025

Toe pic after leaving it unbandaged for 12 hours.

August 8/2025

Follow up at the podiatrist. Sluff removed.

The healing still isn't going as it should, so I am going
back my home-made to guard (chiropody felt and tape)
and alternating (daily) the santyl ointment and betadine.

August 10/2025

Random toe pic.

August 22/2025

Follow up at the podiatrist; waiting for the doctor. My regular doctor
was off, so I saw a different one.

All cleaned up; the wound is a little smaller.

Dropping the betadine and sticking with just the santyl. The
doctor also revised my home-made toe guard.

August 23/2025

The revised toe gaurd.

September 3/2025

The scab fell off during cleaning.

September 5/2025

Follow up at the podiatrist.

Went back to my style of guard as this new one wasn't doing
as much. The doctor is going to order a bone scan to see what
is going on inside the toe; the healing just isn't happening.

September 19/2025

Got referral for an x-ray for the new pain.

West Coast Medical Imaging; x-ray on the left foot.

November 3/2025

Home Health Care; #2 toe wound care.

November 4/2025

Saw my GP about my toe. The x-ray only showed infection.
I figured that with all these tests showing infection, he
would get me referred for antibiotics. Nope. The only way
I can get antibiotics is to go to the ER.

November 5/2025

Langley Hospital ER; the only way I can get started on IV antibiotics.

November 6/2025

Jim Pattison; IV antibiotics.

November 7/2025

The hospital sent me home with a five day supply of antibiotics
and gear to do the job. The antibiotic needs to be kept cool,
so in the fridge they go.

Got a call around 5pm; they have a room for me at Abbotsford
Hospital.

My home for the next 3-5 days.

November 20/2025

10:24am. Waiting to hear as to what is going on.

12:20pm. Getting a CT Angiography to confirm no blood flow
issues in my leg and foot.

12:40pm. Waiting to go back to my room.

2:00pm. Surgery right in my bed. The infections hasn't
spread to far, so she will remove part of the toe rather
than the whole thing.

3:00pm. All done. I am non-weight bearing on it for three days.

November 21/2025

More waiting to hear what is going on.

The surgeon came by to check on things. When she removed the
bandage, blood started gushing from the left side of the toe. She
had to put another stitch in to stop it.

After dinner, I transfered to my wheelchair and went to the entrance
of the hospital for some fresh air and change of scenery.

November 22/2025

A nurse did a bandage change and a little blood was coming from
the right side of the toe. She figured the bandage stuck to the
skin when being removed, so no big deal.

November 23/2025

The nurse did another bandage change. Just a teeny amount of
drainage from the right side, so all is good.

At this point, I should be discharged tomorrow.

Evening entertainment

November 24/2025

The nurse did a bandage change. Still a little drainage.

The PT team came in to get me on my feet. I put on my off-loading
shoe and used their 2-wheeled walker. Took 20ish steps to the
stairs, went up, and as I was coming down, they noticed blood
coming through my sock. They put me in my wheelchair
and got me back to my room.

The surgeon came back and put in another stitch.

Hopefully I get discharged tomorrow.

This evening's entertainment; paid $4 for the chips from a
vending machine downstairs.

November 25/2025

Getting the PICC line removed and a dressing change.
