Happy New Year!

2021-01-02

Talked to my doctor. The blood work and x-rays don't show any
signs of infection, but there could be an underlying skin
infection (stump dermatoses). I am to continue my oral
antibiotic for (a total of) five days, and monitor how things
are from there.

Follow up pictures of stumpy. His colour is looking better

Before this foot thing got out of control, I started to get
some long over due dental work done, which involved
getting several teeth removed. This was put on hold
during my amputation recovery, but a few days ago
one of the teeth that was on the removal list decided
to act up. So, today I went to the dentist to have said
tooth removed. After a chat with my dentist, he
decided to pull four, but only charge me for one.
Hats off to Smiles Unlimited.

Home Health Care.

After lunch I went out shopping with dad. Normally this isn't such
a big deal, but this was my first time trying to get in and out of my
car, by myself. It goes like this; wheelchair to back of car, disable
alarm and open tailgate with remote, set up walker, put seat on
walker, sit in walker, put wheelchair cushion in back of car, fold
wheelchair, lift and put wheelchair in back of car, get up off walker,
sit on bumper of car, take seat of walker, put walker in back of car,
stand up, use walker to get to drivers door, open door, sit in drivers
seat, close tailgate with dash switch, fold walker, lift walker into
vehicle and lay it down in back seat. Whew!

Getting out is the same in reverse.

This is a lot of work, but the freedom of being able to go out on
my own is so worth it.

Home Health Care. Got the go ahead to take the next step with my
prosthetic. Stay tuned.

Became a full fledged member today.

2021-01-22

West Coast Retina Consultants. Visit went well; the swelling has
continued to go down, and I read 20/20 on the eye chart. They
are very impressed with how I am doing.

2021-01-24

Home Health Care. Things are going good, so they scheduled me for
once a week appointments (currently twice a week), and I will change
the bandage mid week.

Selfie time.

Hodgson Orthopedic. Got my prosthetic liner, and they made a cast for my first socket.

Tri-Cities Diabetes Health Center. Had a good phone call with the nurse.
She is happy with how I am doing, and we will chat again in a few months.

2021-01-28

My temporary liner holder (for hang drying); a little nicer than
the broom handle I used the first two nights. I have plans to
make a nice one from pvc plastic, so stay tuned for that.

Put in a more durable bulb, and wrapped masking tape on it
as the liner was sticking to it.

Did my first bandage change, on my own.

2021-02-20

Weighed myself this morning; I am now 101.2 lb lighter today than I was
when I started this journey back on December 16, 2019.

2021-02-22

Home Healthcare. Went by myself (for the first time), and was discharged.

2021-02-28

Spent the weekend at my place; figuring out how to get things done
on my own. It was so nice.

Had a shower, with the bandage off; the ones I am using now aren't
waterproof, and one corner was peeling off. Looking good.

2021-03-01

Return to work.

2021-03-03

First physiotherapy appointment; let the walking begin.

My prosthetist couldn't make this appointment due to the short
notice, so I had to stop by Hodgson Orthotics in Coquitlam
and pick up my leg.

2021-03-07

Spent the weekend at my place for the second time.

Physiotherapy.

Finished the second full week back at work.

Moved all my belongings back home over the past couple
of days, so I am now living at my place again. Yay!
Been away for 6 1/2 months.

2021-03-18

Physiotherapy.

My co-workers got me some tassles and a bell to spruce up my scooter.

Picked up two more items from the Red Cross (loaners).

Had to carry all this home from Hodgson Orthotics.

Socks

Got a proper stand for my liner.

My finished leg; the socket is a touch smaller and quite a bit
thinner than the first (temporary) one.

Got my second stump liner.

Ready to start walking (in my house).

Chilling with my new friend.

Stumpy afterwards; looking good.

2021-03-23

Physiotherapy.

Test run, behind the wheel with the prosthetic on. Seems doable.

I call him "Been", which is Dutch for "leg".

Got my first covid shot today. Took about 30 minutes at the
Central Park drive-through.

Stumpy after a full day with Been on; no issues.

2021-04-13

Finally able to get more daily steps in.

2021-04-15

I noticed that when using my walking aids, my smartwatch
doesn't count all the steps I take, so I picked up a pedometer to
keep track of Been's movement.

One of the areas that got infected back in October is opening up a bit.
Not "open tissue", so not sure if it healed this way and the opening is
"relaxing" a bit. Will keep a very close eye on this.

Using up to 25 ply socks by the end of the day, so it is time for a new socket.

Fun fact: when I first started wearing Been, the days started in 3-5
ply socks and ended in 13-15 ply. Three months later I start at 10 ply
and end in 25 ply.
